What are the flying hour requirements to get an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating:

PREREQUISITES:

Current medical

Must be current and proficient on instruments

Must have working knowledge of FAR's and AIM.

US Passport or Copy of Birth Certificate, or Visa if overseas student.

ELIGIBILITY:

Prerequisites: 23 years old (minimum)

___ Commercial Pilot’s Certificate (or military eligibility with instrument check in last 12 months)

___ 500 hours Cross Country (military flight more than 50 miles, do not need to land)

___ 75 hours actual or simulated instrument time (25 max in simulator)

_____100 hours night, of which 25 hours must be PIC (if less, reference 61.159(b), a person who has performed 20 night take-offs and landings to a full stop may substitute each additional night take-off and landing to a full stop for 1 hour of night flight time, not more than 25 hours. )

___ 250 hours PIC in airplanes (or supervised SIC) Military and Part 121 or Part 135 pilots acting as crewmwmbers on an aircraft requiring 2 crewmembers may log PIC time for the time they are "flying their leg" as SIC.

___ 100 hours PIC cross-country

___ 25 hours PIC at night

___ Valid FAA medical (any class). Military pilots on active fllying status may use their military flight physical.

___ Passed knowledge test within 24 months

Exception to knowledge test within 24 months:

CFR 61.39: (b) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs (a)(1) and (2) of this section, an applicant for an airline transport pilot certificate or an additional rating to an airline transport certificate may take the practical test for that certificate or rating with an expired knowledge test report, provided that the applicant:

(1) Is employed as a flight crewmember by a certificate holder under part 121, 125, or 135 of this chapter at the time of the practical test and has satisfactorily accomplished that operator's approved—

(i) Pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; and

(ii) Qualification training requirements appropriate to the certificate and rating sought; or (if you are an FO you need a current ATP written to take the check with anyone but your current airline).

(2) Is employed by the U.S. Armed Forces as a flight crewmember in U.S. military air transport operations at the time of the practical test and has completed the pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the pilot certificate and rating sought. (This means if you are an AC flying for AMC (tankers included) then your expired ATP written test is OK).

MUST BRING PASSPORT OR BIRTH CERTIFICATE

 If I am a First Officer on a Part 121 carrier, can I log my FO time as PIC towards the ATP license requirements?: Yes, you can log the time for the legs you fly as PIC towards the ATP requirements.

If I am a military pilot, how do I log cross country time for the ATP license?: For military pilots, you can log cross country time on any flight that goes outside 50 NM from the point of departure. You do not have to land outside 50 NM from the point of departure.
