CHECKRIDE BUST ALERT: Watch the crosswinds! A strong student recently busted at TCL when he tried to land with crosswinds out of limits! Rule of thumb: If tower gives you the winds and the direction is plus or minus 20 degrees of the heading at 3 or 9 o'clock on your RMI, a wind velocity of 18 knots or greater will probably be out of limits! Use the whole gust factor!! This subject does not normally come up during training so it is a GOTCHA!! Checkride coming up?
